In the official competition, ULLWT has received the prize “Equipo más Deportivo” four times, given by the Canarian Wrestling Federation of Tenerife. But there is another “internal” competition, called “Trofeo Rector” , which is a tournament among teams from different Falcuties. And we have to add an annual tournament, “Trofeo Interuniversitario de Canarias” (Inter-University Tournament ) which is a competition between the University of La Laguna and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC). The next celebration will be the 9^th edition of this tournament, and ULLWT has won the trophy three times. This year tournament has not been celebrated because ULPGC had not a regular team.

It is not only the sport, but the science, and ULLWT is the organizer of the meeting named “Jornadas Acerca de la Lucha Canaria, su investigación y su difusión”, which is celebrated every year together with the Inter-University Tournament. The first of them took place in 1992. This meeting is just an excuse to know what’s going on about science and philosophy in Canarian Wrestling, and there you can find the steps we are given to push this sport forward. Some Grants are given by the sponsors to assist to this meeting, so that enhance young students to participate.

It had been outstanding wrestlers in our Team: Jorge Ávila, Tenerife and Canary Islands Champion in 60-70 kilograms category in 1994,1995 and 1996; Carlos Alberto De La Luz Marrero (“El Candil de La Isleta”), four times Tenerife Champion in under 60 kilograms category.
